Let's see what all has happened this week....
Monday night we (three other girls and myself) planned our travels for the last week that we are here, in England! Ahhh I am so excited. We have decided that we are going to go to Venice and Rome, and then finish up the week be revisiting London, since there were so many things we did not have time to do or see last weekend while we were there. Originally we planned to go to Paris during that last week, however we changed our minds due to the negative vibe we received from hearing others talk about it.
School Life:
The schools in England are much more relaxed than the schools in America. From the way they dress to the way the students are taught. Everything is so different! I have even learned a few things myself!
This week I have been working with students in the morning on a program called "Toes by Toes." This program is designed to help struggling readers. The students seem to enjoy it or shall I say they do not fuss about having to do it. My students have also been building "monsters" out of a variety of materials. They are gluing newspaper to their monsters so they can paint them.... This is very interesting. Some of the students are very creative and are completing their monsters rather nicely. While other students have no clue what they are doing. HAHA, today was hectic. The students had glue EVERYWHERE. I think it may be a little too complex of a task for this age group. We will see though, maybe they will catch on. I will post some pictures of their monsters when they are completed.
Today we had an assembly and a student asked us, the american students, what we like the most about Rainbow Forge than our school back home. We all agreed that the students here have the best manners we have ever seen. Even the "bad" kids have great manners. It is so cute to hear them talk as well!
I did the register this afternoon when the kids came back from lunch. You say Good Afternoon "Harry" and the student replies with, "Good Afternoon Ms. Metheny." Too cute, especially with their accents.
Oh and the teachers take attendance (do the register) at the beginning of the day and after lunch. This is very odd considering it is a primary school.
On Wednesday mornings our kids can participate in Zumba!
My classroom, which currently has 40 students.
They have Promethean Boards which are very similar to SMART Boards.
Our Stove blew up the first week here... Maintenance left us this note...
So we left them a note back about our washer/dryer.... They drew us a visual of how to use the washer/dryer! (sorry the picture is upside down. I'm not sure how that happened.)
Way to early in the morning to be taking pictures! Waiting for the Tram,
Our school has really cute bulletin boards!
Every student has a hook with their name above it in the hallway.
I can't see the top shelf of my closet, so I have to stand on a shelf!
Katie thought it would be funny to take a picture!
Today during our lunch break Sarah and I walked to the post office, since we have an hour lunch break. This was interesting as well. Ha, the man working the desk said that we reminded him of old people because it took us so long to count the money out. HAHA. Their money is so confusing. They have wayyy to many coins.
After we paid him for our stamps, we had to ask him how to put them on... You have to put on a regular stamp plus a sticker that says royal air mail. We had no idea where that sticker was suppose to go. Then the post man proceed to fool with us by telling us how to place our mail in the mail slot. Ha, he said if you are mailing to Australia you have to put it in the slot stamp down! I assume this was a joke.. but he asked me why I was laughing at what he said... hmm surely he was not being serious.
Today after school we went to the Gypsy Queen Pub with some of the teachers from our school. We also met up with the girls from the other Primary school there as well. How did we get to the Gypsy Queen? Well the teachers drove us there! Talk about scary. First of all, we made a joke that they drive on the wrong side of the road. They thought that was funny. It is so scary though. I could never drive over here. Every time a car would come towards us I felt like we were going to wreck! Its just weird! It also feels funny riding as a passenger on the front left side of the car.
This is an AWFUL picture of me! But hey, we were driving on the "wrong side of the road."
Well tomorrow is Friday, thank the Lord!!
Right after school we are coming home grabbing our bags and heading out to catch a train to Manchester. Then we are flying to Dublin, Ireland for the weekend! I'm sure it will be a blast considering it will be St. Patrick's Day Weekend! Yippee!
I will take lots of pictures and blog about it sometime when I get back.. No promises as to when though. Next week is going to be very busy! Our plane doesn't land until 11:30 in Manchester then we have at least an hour train ride back to sheffield on Sunday Night. Monday night we are having dinner at our host family's house. So... it may be tuesday before I get everything up.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Miss ya'll!!!!!
Love,
KM
